Senior React Engineer

Space 48
react frontend ecommerce javascript Nov 1, 2021Apply

Job Description

You'll form a key part of a team of developers building React-based components and applications to support our SaaS eCommerce and headless platforms.

As an example of what you'll be working on: we're building headless eCommerce sites with Gatsby and rich interactive product customisers with Next.js on Vercel.

You start your day in a team Stand Up discussing progress you made yesterday, listening to your team members describe their current issues and dropping some knowledge bombs on how you solved this last time. Youre working from home today, so you pay the pet tax and encourage your four-legged-friend wave to the camera before logging off.

First up youve got a pair-programming session with a Junior Developer in your team to help them through a tough search component that theyve been working on. Theyve been steadily improving under your experienced wing and are turning into a really productive team member.

After lunch youll set your Slack status and turn on Do Not Disturb for a couple of hours while you debug a weird issue with a customers site. Theres been a change to the out of stock logic recently to support multiple warehouses. You update your unit test suite to cover this unexpected scenario and tell the Project Manager the good news! You push your feature branch to Bitbucket and watch Bitbucket Pipelines build your artifact and prove that your tests pass.

Your JIRA issue has automatically transitioned to In Code Review and you open your pull request, studying your diff carefully before assigning it to your team mate for a sanity check.

Tomorrow (assuming all is well!) youll merge your pull request into a release branch and let Pipelines deploy it to Staging where it will be regression tested by the QA Team and their bank of automated tests. It should be out to Production by the end of the week, providing we can get through the testing and get client sign off by 2pm on Thursday.

If you read this and it sounds like your ideal job we want you on the team!

### What you'll be doing

The following should give you an idea of how youll be expected to typically be spending your time. Its not set in stone and it may change from week-to-week, but it gives an idea of what is expected from the role.

#### Software Development (80%)

The majority of your time will be spent working with your team to deliver software that meets the needs of our customers. This isnt time that youll spend entirely in your editor, theres stand up, sprint planning, scoping, architecting and designing that youll take part in to make sure were building exactly what we need in the right way.

Given your experience, a portion of this time is expected to be spent assisting other team members in delivering their work effectively.

#### Process and Tooling Improvements (10%)

Making sure that we dont sit still and keep evolving the way we build and deliver software is a critical investment of time, particularly from a team member with your experience. Use this time to try that tool you read about and see if its worthy of being a part of our toolchain.

#### Personal Development (10%)

Keeping up with new software releases, development practices, horror stories and post mortems are an essential part of any Software Developers time! Use this time to push forward your objectives and research tools and techniques you need to stay productive.

Senior Software Developer

Steadily
Verified
frontend backend python react Oct 15, 2021Apply

Job Description

Steadily is a Series A insurtech startup for landlords. We've grown from 5 to 30 people over the last year to match demand, and the technical/product challenges have gotten really interesting. We're hiring a senior engineer with experience building web apps and service oriented architecture to help us build the core of our stack.

At Steadily, our purpose is to give landlords fast, affordable insurance and amazing customer service so theyre confident theyll have the coverage they need on a rainy day. Because of our technology and service, our customers love being insured by us, even when they have a claim.

Why join us

* You'll be in good company. Not to toot our own horn too much, but the founders are solid engineers. Our VP of Engineering helped grow a company from 15 people to more than 2,000 software engineers. The President has gone through YC twice and has two previous exits.
* We pay top of market with competitive base salaries and equity
* Youll be hands-on with everything, from coding in python to influencing product roadmaps
* We're growing fast and are well-funded (Series A, $30M)

What you'll build

* Rating engines for calculating how much an insurance policy should cost
* Combine property intelligence for external sources to estimate how likely a property is to flood, catch on fire, or get vandalized
* A mobile experience for people to buy insurance that is so simple/intuitive that your least-tech savvy relative with a flip-phone could use it without help e.g. pass the Mom Test
* Claim app that uses phone camera and sensors to document the damage smartly

Ideal background

* Experienced: This isn't your first rodeo. There's no specific minimum number of years requirement, but we expect you to be able to dive into a complex codebase without too much spin-up. Past experience as a team lead is definitely a plus.
* Builder: You like the product-side of engineering and have thoughtful opinions on what the user experience should be. You're not the type of engineer who wants a fully-fleshed out spec thrown over the wall for you to code.
* Pragmatic: Let's say you have a tradeoff to make: Option A is to ship something fast using an off-the-shelf API on AWS; you won't learn that much and it only solves 80% of the problem, but it'll only take a few days. Option B is to invest about two weeks building a new library and internally-hosted service that perfectly solves the problem; as a bonus you can share it on Github and give a presentation about it at PyCon. If you choose Option A 10/10 then you'll be at home here.
* Specific languages: We don't really care if you've worked in our stack before as long as you're happy to learn it. If you're sharp enough to be on this team, you're sharp enough to learn any language or framework quickly.

Our stack

* Python 3
* Django
* Postgres
* Heroku (with full CI pipeline)
* Redis / Celery
* Kafka

Compensation

* At least $150,000/year
* We believe in paying top-of-market to attract the best person for each role.
* However, the compensation package is usually the second reason people choose to join a startup. The primary reason is they want to experience the growth that comes from pouring your heart and soul into building something that people love. Thats what we do.

Things to consider

This won't be easy. We work extremely hard to sustain our execution velocity and have sky-high expectations of each other. This fact is itself a huge reward: getting to work with other individuals as stellar as you.

Benefits

* Paid Time Off
* Health Insurance
* 401k / HSA / FSA

Were excited to meet you!

Be sure to mention the words RHYTHM RARE ELDER when applying to show you read the job post completely. This is a beta feature to avoid spam applicants.
