Senior React Engineer

Space 48
react frontend ecommerce javascript Nov 1, 2021Apply

Job Description

You'll form a key part of a team of developers building React-based components and applications to support our SaaS eCommerce and headless platforms.

As an example of what you'll be working on: we're building headless eCommerce sites with Gatsby and rich interactive product customisers with Next.js on Vercel.

You start your day in a team Stand Up discussing progress you made yesterday, listening to your team members describe their current issues and dropping some knowledge bombs on how you solved this last time. Youre working from home today, so you pay the pet tax and encourage your four-legged-friend wave to the camera before logging off.

First up youve got a pair-programming session with a Junior Developer in your team to help them through a tough search component that theyve been working on. Theyve been steadily improving under your experienced wing and are turning into a really productive team member.

After lunch youll set your Slack status and turn on Do Not Disturb for a couple of hours while you debug a weird issue with a customers site. Theres been a change to the out of stock logic recently to support multiple warehouses. You update your unit test suite to cover this unexpected scenario and tell the Project Manager the good news! You push your feature branch to Bitbucket and watch Bitbucket Pipelines build your artifact and prove that your tests pass.

Your JIRA issue has automatically transitioned to In Code Review and you open your pull request, studying your diff carefully before assigning it to your team mate for a sanity check.

Tomorrow (assuming all is well!) youll merge your pull request into a release branch and let Pipelines deploy it to Staging where it will be regression tested by the QA Team and their bank of automated tests. It should be out to Production by the end of the week, providing we can get through the testing and get client sign off by 2pm on Thursday.

If you read this and it sounds like your ideal job we want you on the team!

### What you'll be doing

The following should give you an idea of how youll be expected to typically be spending your time. Its not set in stone and it may change from week-to-week, but it gives an idea of what is expected from the role.

#### Software Development (80%)

The majority of your time will be spent working with your team to deliver software that meets the needs of our customers. This isnt time that youll spend entirely in your editor, theres stand up, sprint planning, scoping, architecting and designing that youll take part in to make sure were building exactly what we need in the right way.

Given your experience, a portion of this time is expected to be spent assisting other team members in delivering their work effectively.

#### Process and Tooling Improvements (10%)

Making sure that we dont sit still and keep evolving the way we build and deliver software is a critical investment of time, particularly from a team member with your experience. Use this time to try that tool you read about and see if its worthy of being a part of our toolchain.

#### Personal Development (10%)

Keeping up with new software releases, development practices, horror stories and post mortems are an essential part of any Software Developers time! Use this time to push forward your objectives and research tools and techniques you need to stay productive.

Security Engineer

Modern Treasury
security full stack ruby react Oct 31, 2021Apply

Job Description

OVERVIEW

We're looking for Security Engineers to join our Engineering team. In this role, you will build innovative payments products that delight both engineering and finance teams. As an early member of the engineering team, you will help shape the engineering culture of a fast-growing startup.

The core platform at Modern Treasury sits between our customers and their banks. In the same way that Twilio abstracted away the complexity of working with communication networks, we have built an easy-to-use, common interface into the banking system. Our customers use our products to do things like move money to or from their users, automate back-office work, and record their transaction ledgers. The companies that can use Modern Treasury move over $750 trillion a year via bank payments, as compared to only $2 trillion per year on card payments.

Our API is often the most critical piece of infrastructure that our customers use. We place a premium on building robust, scalable systems that can sustain a high volume of API calls and exceed the reliability requirements to move money at scale. We complement this with well-thought out interfaces for our users and pride in writing quality API docs.

We believe in using the best tool for the job, rather than always using open source or building things ourselves. We actively embrace open source in parts of our system but aren't afraid to roll our own solution for things like writing and parsing bank files. We also contribute to open source (for example, https://www.moderntreasury.com/journal/continuous-accounting-building-on-an-open-source-library).

In addition to our API, we have had a web platform since day 1 that is used by accountants, controllers, and engineers. They use our platform to do things like manage payment workflows and monitor their business. As an engineer, you will work with our product team to build products and features for these users.

ABOUT MODERN TREASURY

Modern Treasury is payment operations software for businesses with a high volume of transactions or complex payment flows. Modern Treasury automates the full cycle of money movement from payment initiation, through approvals, to reconciliation.

Our mission is to transform the way businesses move and track money, driving toward a world where payments are real-time, reconciliation is instant, and accounting is continuous.

WEEK BY WEEK

During your first week you will:
* Get to know our leadership, culture, and values
* Onboard with the engineering team
* Ship your first commit on day 1
* Take on 1-2 small tickets to address bugs or make minor improvements
* Read our favorite industry primers

During your first six weeks you will:
* Ship your first major project
* Write your first blog post. We love writing at Modern Treasury (and have been on the front page of Hacker News multiple times with posts like "What Happens When You ACH a Dead Person?" and "How to Build an Insurance Company")
* Shadow a few customer and partner meetings every week

During your first six months you will:
* Work with our product team to scope and ship products for both our engineering and finance users
* Help grow our team by mentoring new engineers, writing internal tooling and documentation, and interviewing new hires

WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE
* Experience building web applications professionally for 2+ years
* Experience working with SQL/Relational databases

TECHNOLOGIES WE USE
* Ruby on Rails for our backend framework
* React, GraphQL, and Tailwind CSS on the front end
* Postgres for our database
* Redis for caching
* AWS for infrastructure and hosting
* Docker for containerization
* GitHub for source code management
* Buildkite for continuous integration
