Web Development Manager (Social Impact Websites)

Madeo
13 days agoApply

Job Description

Time zones: EST (UTC -5), CST (UTC -6)

Full-Time

About Madeo
Madeo is a digital creative agency with a focus on social impact. We are an inclusive and diverse team of strategists, designers, and engineers. We value mission-driven work that relies on empathy, analytical thinking, and collaboration.

Our clients include Innocence Project, the Equal Justice Initiative, the Legacy Museum, Stop Tobacco, Echoing Green, Robin Hood Foundation, and MIT.

About the Role
We are inviting a Web Development Manager to join our team. The role needs a skilled verbal and written communicator, a confident process and project manager, that is always keen on continuous improvements. The role includes some technical project management, dev ops, and client-facing collaboration on behalf of engineers.

We are a remote-first collaborative team that invests heavily in learning, career development, and supporting one another.

Your Role & Responsibilities
The Web Development Manager would be responsible for managing the web development and other technical needs (e.g. hosting, APIs, Google Tag Manager) of website projects. They would not do it alone and would not be expected to directly manage other employees.

They would partner with the Project Manager and with the Director of Engineering who oversees the team’s engineers. You would also partner with strategists that help define features, research, and project goals.

You would also be invited to help manage our service of managing websites that we launched with our clients. This ongoing work includes performing updates, audits, tests, reporting and evaluation.

Your role would invite you to manage services, processes, projects, and contribute with your own technical skills in some instances.

Basic Requirements for Consideration

  1. You live and work on the East Coast or in the EST time zone. Preference for those who live within a short travel distance to New York.
  2. 3+ years of direct relevant experience in website development and website management, preferably with multiple clients on website design and development projects.
  3. You have some first hand web development experience with Wordpress or Drupal. While you would not be expected to be responsible for developing sites yourself, it would help you resolve some smaller issues and give you technical acumen to discuss approaches with engineers.
  4. You are able to perform basic technical tasks in AWS, such as restarting a server or investigating basic level of troubleshooting website performance issues.
  5. You have experience and enjoy project management, written and verbal communication, and coordinating between a wide range of people from our team and the client team.
  6. You ideally find a particular interest in supporting projects that have a focus on social impact, mostly in partnership with inspiring nonprofit organizations as our clients

Expected Range of Responsibilities
Depending on your level of expertise, you may either support or lead some of these responsibilities, in collaboration with other Madeo engineers, designers, strategists, and project managers:

  1. Define and review web development needs from incoming RFPs.
  2. Help produce the engineering portion of proposals, by scoping and estimating engineering related deliverables.
  3. Act as engineering planning lead; partner with the project manager, strategists, designers, director of engineering, and other engineers on planning and directly coordinating engineering phases within client website redesign and rebuild projects.
  4. Act as the project’s technical point of contact for client teams in addressing most aspects of engineering and technical needs of a project. You would either respond directly or facilitate answers with other engineers and respond on the team’s behalf.
  5. Oversee web hosting planning and set up process. You would coordinate between client teams and our team of engineers. Your first hand technical experience with AWS or other hosting services would be helpful for this role.
  6. Investigate and coordinate content migration needs from the client’s existing CMS to the new website’s decided CMS and version.
  7. Work with other team members on defining CMS features for a client website. Technical experience with Wordpress or Drupal would be an expected proficiency.
  8. Coordinate needs and collaboration between client teams and engineers across all areas of website development and third-party API tools (e.g. Mailchimp, Salesforce, Formstack..etc.)
  9. Contribute to functional testing and other forms of Quality Assurance tasks for website projects.
  10. Contribute to drafting CMS guides and technical documentation doc for client teams.
  11. Help plan and coordinate the deployment of website launches in partnership with the director of engineering and the Project Manager.
  12. Take the lead on post-launch support requests, working with other engineers on resolving reported issues, carrying out updates and improvements to managed sites along with the website management service as a whole.
  13. Participate in team-wide side projects, research initiatives, and learning opportunities

Cliniko
13 days agoApply

Job Description

About the Job

We are looking for a few amazing software developers to join our globally remote team at Cliniko. This is no ordinary job—we’ll likely provide you with the best place to work you’ve ever experienced! This is a full stack web development role with a focus on the server side. We’re keen to find smart developers who work well autonomously and are passionate about what they do. You should be experienced in software development, but there’s no requirement for how much or with any specific technologies. We’re mostly seeking senior or mid level developers, but we will consider any stand out applications.

What is Cliniko?

Cliniko is practice management software that makes life easy for allied health professionals by handling appointment scheduling, storing treatment notes, running video consultations, and much more. The software is used globally by 100,000+ people every day.

It’s a web application built using Ruby on Rails in the back end and we’re in the process of transitioning the front end to React.

Our team

Behind Cliniko is a team of about 50 people, spread around the world. We work completely remotely, although our base is in Melbourne, Australia. We care more about finding the best person for the job than looking for someone that lives nearby.

We don't have managers, we almost never have meetings, and there are no time sheets to complete. We're responsible, autonomous, creative, and proactive in doing our best for our customers. We're focused on making great software and we take pride in doing good work. It’s also important to us that we have a positive impact on the world.

If you want to know more about how we work, our founder, Joel, gave a talk about it.

What you’ll work on

You will spend your time developing Cliniko. Some of the things you’ll do are:
  • Adding new features.
  • Improving existing features.
  • Fixing bugs.
  • Refactoring code.
  • Maintaining the existing code.
  • Reviewing code written by other developers.
  • Making Cliniko faster.
  • Improving security.
  • Resolving issues for customers.
  • Assisting the support team with queries.
  • Testing and deploying your own code.
  • Anything else you think needs doing.
Basically, you’ll be doing all you can to make Cliniko better for our customers.

About you

You are someone who loves to code and values code that is easy to understand. You’re passionate about your work having a positive impact. You want to learn and share what you know.

Taking initiative and being responsible come naturally to you. You want your code meticulously reviewed, so that you can improve it. You also enjoy doing the same in return. You like working with a team, but you are driven and motivated to take control of your projects and deliver your own code.

You understand the importance of security practices in your development. You write tests because they matter, not just to achieve coverage.

You’re comfortable working from the database through to the DOM. This includes:
  • Relational databases.
  • Queues and caches.
  • Server side web frameworks.
  • JSON APIs, our own and 3rd party services.
  • Client side JS.
You're proficient in all of these and extremely capable in at least a few. Experience with Ruby on Rails is not required, but similar experience and an ability to quickly come up to speed is. In this role you don't need to have extensive skills in HTML and CSS—we have team members who excel at those who will help you out.

No matter what your background is or how you identify, if you feel you meet the requirements, we encourage you to apply. We know that having a diverse team brings the benefit of different perspectives, and this is how we’ll keep finding new ways to make Cliniko better. We are committed to the continual diversification of the team and working to constantly improve our inclusivity which is crucial to how we work.

How we work

Here are some things we do a little differently to enable people to do their best work and live a happy life:
  • 30-hour work week, full-time pay.
  • Flexible hours, choose when you work.
  • Work from anywhere.
  • Unlimited annual leave (minimum 4 weeks per year).
  • Supplied computer equipment.
  • Ergonomic furniture.
  • Fresh organic fruit delivered weekly to your home.
  • Overseas trips for full team meet-ups (family invited and paid for too).
  • No managers.
  • No meetings.

How to apply

The following page has the application form with a few questions. The “Tell us about yourself” field needs to give us enough information to be interested in taking you to the next stage. We typically get a lot of applications (hundreds at a minimum), so do put some effort into this section please. Notably, there's no resume or cover letter submission, so this is your spot to give us some insight into who you are. And please be yourself, there’s no need for formality.

There'll be a few other short questions, including one asking for an answer to a pseudocode statement, and one about our security features. It's important to answer those two correctly. We won’t consider any applications that get either wrong.

Note: While the form does allow you to upload a resume, it’s only to pre-fill the contact fields for you. We won’t actually see the resume.

Job applications close 29th of March, 2024.

What you can expect after applying

Once you’ve applied, sit back and relax while we get to work on our side! We’ll be reviewing all the applications as they come in and we’ll get back to you a week after applications close at the latest. Everyone will hear back from us, successful or not.

If we select you for the next stage, it will be a short 5 minute chat with our founder, Joel. Following the chat, if you’re still a contender, there’ll be a technical task to complete. These tasks are paid.

Lastly, you’d meet with some people from our team and then we’ll make the final decision. This is the exciting part for us and hopefully also for the chosen person: we’ll hire them to join our team! This will happen fast, and the start date will be chosen by the applicant.

We know it’s quite a process to go through, so we want to make sure you know what you’re in for up front. We’ll be transparent with everyone along the way.

One final note, unfortunately due to the quantity of applications we receive, we are not able to provide feedback for those not successful in the first round. In the later stages, we’ll do our best to provide what we can, if requested.

Good luck!
