Job Description

is looking for a an experienced Database Administrator to support our Lead Engineer and help provide management of Microsoft SQL and Azure SQL infrastructure and optimization of software development and deployment processes.\n\nNOTE: Because this is a support role, we are looking for candidates who can be available ON CALL outside our normal working hours (Vienna Central European Summer Time /\nGMT+2). This would mean having a direct phone number to reach you in case of emergencies.\n\nThis role will require only limited hours, between 10-20 per week.\n\nThis support role will be asked to assist with the following areas:\n• Support software development processes and implementation of new software releases through review of SQL scripts and changes;  \n\n• Proactively monitor and maintain database infrastructure in Microsoft Azure cloud for possible problems and performance improvements;\n\n• Maintain and implement security best practices; proactively investigate improvements to MS SQL security;\n\n• Support software deployment activities as it relates to SQL infrastructure and scripting;\n\n• Investigate technical incidents related to SQL infrastructure;\n\n• Cooperate and communicate closely with software development and quality assurance teams to ensure efficient processes;\n\n• Maintain and optimize deployment infrastructure, including replication management;\n\n• Maintain and support SQL Server infrastructure;\n\n• Keep abreast of developments in the field of Microsoft Azure and SQL and propose new tools, processes and strategies as appropriate;\n\n• Perform other work-related duties as assigned.\n\n• Be available for emergency issues outside of Lead Engineers working hours

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

With over 1,000 staff at United Nations Headquarters in New York and almost 2,000 worldwide, including conference management staff at the United Nations Offices at Geneva, Vienna and Nairobi, the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) is the largest in the United Nations Secretariat. The workforce includes committee secretaries and research staff, meeting planners and protocol officers, translators, revisers and verbatim reporters, interpreters and editors, proofreaders, graphic designers and printers, conference officers and administration staff spanned across four duty stations.

DGACM is looking for a Quality Assurance Engineer to provide reliable testing services for its documentation, meetings and translation management systems. The incumbents will report to and work under the direct supervision of the Team Leader of QA and DevOps Team. 

Under delegated authority, the Quality Assurance Engineer will perform the following duties:

• Support software development process and implementation of new software releases by testing computer application systems and programs, using team established standards for IT technologies and tools; 
• Participate in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and support of computer application systems from a quality assurance perspective; 
• Participate in the creation and maintenance of automated tests and test automation frameworks;
• Draft technical documentation for deployed computer application systems; 
• Maintain test and functional specifications for computer application systems, programs and procedures developed and/or modified; 
• Draft correspondence, communications and prepare team contributions for a variety of periodic reports; 
• Keep abreast of developments in the field of quality assurance and propose new acquisitions as appropriate; 
• Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent is required. International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) certification is required.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in software quality assurance is required.
Out of the aforementioned experience, 3 years of experience in developing Test Automation Framework or designing automated testing suites is required. 3 years of experience with Agile development approaches such as SCRUM is required. Practical experience with Software Configuration Management and build tools such as Team Foundation Server or Azure DevOps Services is desired. Practical experience and knowledge of Microsoft Test Manager or Selenium is desirable.
Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

• Implement scripting and coding solutions to support the software lifecycle, including provisioning of cloud resources; 
• Cooperate and communicate closely with software development and quality assurance teams to ensure efficient processes; 
• Maintain and optimize deployment infrastructure; 
• Keep abreast of developments in the field of Microsoft Azure and DevOps and propose new tools, processes and strategies as appropriate; 
• Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: A First-level degree (Bachelor's or equivalent) is required.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in on-premises or cloud-based infrastructure management is required. Out of the aforementioned experience, 2 years experience in Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure management is required including, developing PowerShell scripts, working with Azure IaaS and PaaS, and Infrastructure as Code (such as ARM templates); 2 years of experience with Software Configuration Management and build tools such as Team Foundation Server or Azure DevOps is desirable; 2 years experience with deployment tools like Octopus Deploy or Azure DevOps Release Pipelines is desired; CISSP, ISO27001/27005 or equivalent security certification is desirable; Practical experience and knowledge of C# coding is desirable.
Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
