About the role
We're looking for a full-stack Lead Software Engineer (Rails/React) to join our Internal Tools team. At Circle, our Internal Tools team is responsible for building essential infrastructure and tooling for all internal use cases that enable our teams to help customers faster and more efficiently - this includes standing up and improving world-class open source systems as well as creating custom solutions when needed.

This is a 100% remote role. We're now a fully remote team of 88 (and growing!) based in the U.S., Colombia, Portugal, India, Argentina, Slovenia, and other countries. We have a preference for candidates in U.S. and European time zones.

Responsibilities
  • Define and work on Circle’s internal tools focused roadmap
  • Ship often and ship with care
  • Improve the quality of our codebase and identify architectural deficiencies in your product area
  • Engage in considerate, but robust, PR reviews with Circle's engineers
  • Lead and mentor the internal tools engineering team
  • Work closely with Circle's co-founders and designers throughout the feature spec + design process

Who we're looking for
  • Significant experience working with Ruby on Rails and general familiarity with React
  • Experience working with complex user interfaces and API design
  • Strong judgement and attention to detail when it comes to architectural, product, design, and process decisions. Your judgement should inspire a high level of trust within the team.
  • A desire to work in an environment which values speed of iteration and individual autonomy
  • (Ideal) 1-2 years of experience working on internal tools and / or using tools like Retool

Job Description

Circle is building the all-in-one community platform for every creator and brand in the world: think “Shopify for creator/brand-led communities”. We make it really easy for creators and brands to bring their discussions, courses, members, and content all into one place.

We have big dreams for where to take our platform, and want you to join us in our journey. We're looking to expand our customer support team! This role is a fixed schedule in EST time zone. Training will take place Monday - Friday for the first two months and then transition to a Tuesday - Saturday schedule. There will be an opportunity to transition to Monday - Friday permanently as the team continues to grow.

This is a 100% remote role. We're now a fully remote team of 83 (and growing!) based in the U.S., Colombia, Portugal, India, Argentina, Slovenia, and other countries. We have a preference for candidates in U.S. and European time zones.

  • Prioritize customer issues across our email and community channels.
  • Become an expert on the Circle product, along with our internal staff admin tool.
  • Advise creators on practical solutions as they launch and build their communities.
  • Troubleshoot a wide range of issues across multiple browsers and our iOS app.
  • Escalate feedback to inform and improve our product.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Identify trends from customer inquiries to suggest proactive solutions.
  • Contribute to the Knowledge Base/FAQ and other customer-facing support resources.

Who we're looking for

  • 1-2 years of experience.
  • You have strong written communication skills.
  • You are excited to be a part of an early startup with some serious traction.
  • You've supported customers for a consumer SaaS product.
  • You're skilled at understanding and implementing technical workflows at a fast pace.
  • You love understanding customer needs, and get satisfaction out of being extremely helpful.
  • You want to be involved in the early days of a startup and have a strong voice to inform product development and our roadmap.
  • You have experience walking customers through advanced technical troubleshooting processes.
  • You have experience using Zapier to automate workflows (ideal, but not a must-have.)

We're looking for a DevOps Engineer (SRE) to help our DevOps team build and maintain monitor-able, performant, reliable, and highly-scalable software systems.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the infrastructure and communicate updates with the Dev team
  • Ensure the safety and security of all our infrastructure and data
  • Maintain production cloud infrastructure
  • Support the product team with the relevant knowledge about the infrastructure evolution
  • Maintain, evaluate, and improve the developer experience, including the local developer environment, continuous integration, and deployment workflows

Who we're looking for
  • A strong understanding of GNU/Linux and operating system basics
  • Hands-on experience on using IaaS cloud solutions, specifically AWS - knowledge of AWS services (EC2, EKS, RDS, S3, Cloudfront, VPC, Security groups, and Cloudwatch) required
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and automating them using tools like Jenkins / CircleCI
  • Experience working with declarative Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks (Terraform) and knowledge of configuration management frameworks (Ansible)
  • Experience running docker workloads in production and at scale using Kubernetes
  • Strong experience with databases such as MySQL, Elasticsearch, and Redis
  • Experience with automation skills in bash scripting, Ruby on Rails, and / or other languages.
  • Solid understanding of network fundamentals and protocols such as HTTP/S, DNS, TCP/IP, load balancing, and reverse proxy
  • Knowledge of security practices / related tools like firewalls and VPNs on cloud and servers
  • Experience doing logs aggregation and analysis using tools like EFK
  • Nice to have: Experience in managing / deploying Ruby on Rails applications on the cloud
  • Nice to have: Understanding of Redshift, AWS Glue, and other data warehouse tools
  • Nice to have: Knowledge of Prometheus, Grafana, Helm, Kustomize, and Ingress Controllers
